Dogmatic teachings. What a discovery! These teachings actually hinder us from embracing truth rather then helping us. When you discover that you have been upholding a belief that is based on a strictly legalistic dogmatic application, it’s newfound freedom. Freedom, that is, to now go forward with a real discovery. Truth. It’s truth that sets us free!
According to Collins English Dictionary, “dogmatic” is defined as “(of a statement, opinion, etc) forcibly asserted as if authoritative and unchallengeable” and “based on assumption rather than empirical observation”.
When we embrace such teachings that have no “empirical observation”, it eliminates real world application with a one-size-fits-all approach to every situation. There is no wisdom in that approach. Wisdom is needed for each and every aspect of life to enable us to move forward, progress and grow. Dogmatic views conflict with the principle of wisdom that Jesus spoke of in Luke 7:35, that “wisdom is justified by all her children.” He said, “All” not the few.
The Amplified Bible defines wisdom as “comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God”. Wisdom is lost when rules are made based on man and enforced by those who are free to live by God’s grace. I’m not talking about violating Scripture. I’m saying that we must understand Scripture according to the Spirit and not man’s preferences and rules.
It’s truth that sets us free! When we discover that there is an insightful meaning beyond the dogmatic that takes the heart of our loving Father into consideration, it makes all the difference. The vantage point suddenly changes. He sent Jesus to set us free not put us into captivity.
We all need some “aha” moments! More moments that open our eyes with hope. We all need more of those moments in which we see the hope that is laid right before us. How often have I discovered the very answer I was seeking was right in front of me deceptively veiled by a dogmatic cloak? Saying “Touch not, taste not” but “Christ is the substance” being sought.
But, ahhh, when we see Him! That is when the transformation begins. “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…we shall be changed (transformed)” 1 Corinthians 15:52
“By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you.” Ephesians 1:18a
What do you need to see? Keep seeking, keep asking, and keep knocking! The door is about to open to you! The Truth Himself, Jesus, will open your eyes and set you free!
